Vault Waterproofing

This cellar conversion was to be used as a habitable area, therefore it required grade 3 waterproofing. MacLennan used our cavity drain membrane system because it adheres to BS8102 standards and provides exceuptional waterproofing to a basement area that may otherwise be unusable.

This large country home in an idyllic Hampshire village had a vaulted cellar which needed to be meticulously waterproofed, as it was being renovated in order to provide extra, useable living space. The MacLennan cavity drain system was employed as it provides exceptional waterproofing for any sub ground structure, and ensures that the structure is protected should any unforeseen water event, such as localised flooding, occur. Any project below ground should always have full rather than partial waterproofing, even without historic flooding.

Prior to MacLenna arrival on site, the main contractor ensured the area was prepped and ready for us to install the MacLennan cavity drain system. Once the area was ready, expert Maclennan operatives attended the site and fitted the MacLennan cavity drain system, which includes membranes to walls, floor and ceiling, along with a pump and sump system, also ensuring installation of inspection ports. Once installation was complete, a variety of finishes could be applied for decoration without any negative effect to the waterproofing properties.

MacLennan used our extensive waterproofing knowledge and expertise to ensure that this vaulted cellar would be watertight and fit for a variety of uses for a long time to come. The benefits of using MacLennan-lse for this type of work:

  • The cavity membrane installation is also protected under our insurance backed guarantee for 10 years.
  • MacLennan provide expert solutions which remedy and guarantee the protection of structures from failure due to water.
  • We take full responsibility for all aspects of waterproofing – we are the designer, supplier and contractor

Cellar Waterproofing | Armsworth House in Hampshire

Armsworth House - Waterproofing

basement cellar waterproofing Armsworth house in TidworthAlthough there has been a substantial property on the site since 1791, Armsworth House in Hampshire dates from circa 1862. MacLennan were called in to provide internal cellar waterproofing to the vaulted winebasement cellar. Whilst there has been no history of flooding in this cellar, the client required it to be completely waterproofed and dry from any moisture or water, including condensation.

The cellar is of brick construction with a vaulted ceiling and brick paviour flooring. MacLennan technicians formed a sump hole and installed the sump chamber and sump pumps. We also formed the chase and installed Maclennan's basedrain channels into the floor chase, before installing Maclennan mesh membrane to the floors, walls, wine bin shelves and dividers ensuring all sides were done up to the vault crowns. Once all the membrane had been installed we fitted plasterboard to the walls and plastered all vertical and horizontal surfaces including the vault crowns and laid flooring grade chipboard to the floors.

Our client required the vault to be a useable addition to their property and the result of using experienced specialists such as Maclennn ensured that the vault cellar was completely waterproofed, with pumps to ensure any water coming into the property is pumped out before any damage can be done to the vault.

Tedworth House

TEDWORTH HOUSE, Wiltshire 1,126 Sq. feet of sprayed Polyprufe, due to its high performance standard for deck waterproofing.

History

Podium Deck WaterproofingTedworth House is an extensive manor house which was purchased by the army In 1897 and up until recently has seen a variety of military uses. It was taken over by the charity Help for Heroes in February 2011, on a lease of £1 per annum for 99 years. A £20 million renovation process has been underway for the last year and should be soon a fully functioning residential Rehabilitation and recovery centre for our wounded military personnel. MacLennan was called in to waterproof the decking above the 1,126 sq. foot gym, which was then being turned into tennis courts.

After the surface to be sprayed was prepared, MacLennan operatives then sprayed the prepared surface with our primer before applying a 2 mil coating of Polyprufe. MacLennan Polyprufe is an environmentally friendly, polyurea waterproofing system. It is durable, flexible and fast curing (10 seconds) which allows for quick installation. Once the Polyprufe is dry as part of our quality control, our operatives perform spark testing to ensure it is a consistent and uniform waterproof membrane.

Using MacLennan Polyprufe ensures the ultimate waterproof coating for any decking, it is environmentally safe, no solvents, emissions or VOC. Fast curing means it can take foot traffic after 10 seconds and light vehicular traffic after a few hours. Meaning Tedworth House, now has a waterproof deck to their rehabilitation gym and ample usable space to utilise for tennis courts.

Noss Mayo

Habitable basement apartment, Devon
Maclennan waterproofing systems used as a robust flood control system to prevent flood damage return and to habitable use.

This property is a cottage on the banks of the river Yealm. It is over 3 floors, with steps leading to a slipway and the beach. The property contains a basement apartment that in times past was used as a boat house, but has been converted into a habitable basement. Maclennan were called in to specify another waterproofing company's mistakes. The system had been installed incorrectly which meant that instead of having a habitable living space, for the past 18 months, the home owners were facing water ingress of approximately 5,500 litres per hour, which is 92 litres per minute.

Following a site visit, Maclennan's experienced waterproofing surveyors designed a waterproofing system to fit in with the re-usable aspects of the failed system, such as the base drain. It is always our aim to say our customers money where possible, as long as it doesn't impact on the quality ot the installation. As. if not fitted properly to our specifications by our qualified technicians we are unable to offer our comprehensive guarantees.
The Maclennan 08M system was applied floor to ceiling and our 20M System was applied to the floor We also installed a Maclennan Hydro Sump Pro and 4 CWP 750 pumps two main pumps and two back up pumps. The CWP 400 is capable of discharging 300 litres of water per minute, which can adequately manage to discharge the 92 litres per minute rate of water ingress that comes in at high tide.

This Basement apartment is now a flood and water free habitable area, with the most comprehensive guarantees and insurances available protecting the client. The project shows the importance of using a specialist waterproofing contractor such as Maclennan If you use us from the beginning of your project to design, supply and install the appropriate waterproofing system, you can be assured of a waterproofed, liveable area that carries the most comprehensive guarantees and insurance available. We can ensure that any area is completely water proofed including somewhere that has a river coming in twice a day!
