The Shard

Project: Level 1 Shower Rooms, The Shard, London

The Shard was re-developed over the site of Southwark Towers a 1970’s office block. The shard is 1,016ft high and comprises of 72 floors which include offices, restaurants, a hotel, Residences and of course the famous view – which is the top 4 floors offering a 360° unobstructed view of London. MacLennan were called in by the main contractor to waterproof the Level 1 male, female and wheelchair accessible shower rooms.

Once the areas were prepared Maclennan’s qualified operatives applied Hydroban to both the floor and walls. Hydroban does not require primer or tape and is a self curing liquid rubber polymer that bonds directly to the substrate and forms a flexible seamless waterproofing membrane. Hydroban is fast curing and once dry to the touch is suitable for a variety of finishes, in this case tiling.

Hydroban ensured an exceptional waterproofing system perfect for the three wet rooms we were asked to provide for. The benefits of using MacLennan for waterproofing are:

  • Guaranteed experienced operatives.
  • Cost effective.
  • Waterproofing is our speciality.
  • The system is covered by long term insurance back guarantees.
  • The contract is designed and carried out by us under our insurance cover and PI.
